DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Friday, November 21, 2014

In the Bible God says, “Look, I am making all things new!” The story in The Upper Room is titled “A BETTER FUTURE” and is written by Clifford B. Rawley (Missouri).

Scripture reading:

This section pictures a new exodus for a people once again oppressed, as the Israelites had been as slaves in Egypt before the Exodus. They would cry to God, and again he would hear and deliver them. A new exodus would take place through a new wilderness. The past miracles were nothing compared to what God would do for his people in the future. (NLT)

Isaiah 43:15-21 – “I am the Lord, your Holy One, Israel’s Creator and King. I am the Lord, who opened a way through the waters, making a dry path through the sea. I called forth the mighty army of Egypt with all its chariots and horses. I drew them beneath the waves, and they drowned, their lives snuffed out like a smoldering candlewick.

“But forget all that—it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.   For I am about to do a brand-new thing. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness for my people to come home. I will create rivers for them in the desert! The wild animals in the fields will thank me, the jackals and ostriches, too, for giving them water in the wilderness. Yes, I will make springs in the desert, so that my chosen people can be refreshed. I have made Israel for myself, and they will someday honor me before the whole world.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – Jesus can make all things new. (See Revelation 21:51)

Prayer: Dear Lord, in the light of your forgiveness and leadership, may we follow you into a future of hope. Amen.

1 God is the Creator. The Bible begins with the majestic story of his creation of the universe, and it concludes with his creation of a new heaven and a new earth. This is a tremendous hope and encouragement for the believer. When we are with God, with our sins forgiven and our future secure, we will be like Christ. We will be made perfect like him. (NLT)

Revelation 21:5 – And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making all things new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.”
