DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Wednesday, December 3, 2014

As you make plans and dream dreams, talk with God about them. God works out his plans for our lives and will bring us through [all areas of our lives even] the difficulties we face (NLT).

Yulia Bagwell’s (Pennsylvania) title in The Upper Room is “LET IT GO!” I would like to give you another aspect of the Scripture reading with Yulia’s story. Like Yulia’s story, I also “try to do as unto the Lord.”

Here is Yulia’s story:

“Whatever I do, I try to do as unto the Lord. Other people say I am a perfectionist, but my results are not perfect – not at all! When the day comes to an end, I often feel frustrated or discouraged. I may feel so miserable and inadequate in my efforts to keep up with daily demands and challenges that I cry out to God. Then I let my imperfections go, and God gives me a sense of peace. How differently I perceive life when a new day comes and I open my heart before the Lord with thanksgiving and praise! Then I see God’s faithfulness everywhere.

“Jeremiah also lamented tragedies and trials in his life and in the life of God’s people. Nonetheless, he said, ‘This I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning’ (Lamentations 3:21-23).

“Each day, we remember that our perfection does not make life wonderful and our circumstances do not make life pleasant. But God’s grace and mercy penetrate every aspect of our lives to make our days worth living.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord” (Colossians 3:23, NIV)

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your love and mercy that sustain us from day to day. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Scripture reading:

“Before the gods” may mean in the presence of subordinate heavenly beings (angels), or more likely, it may be a statement ridiculing the kings or gods of the pagan nations. God is supreme in the whole earth.

Thanksgiving should be an essential part of our praise to God. This theme is woven throughout the Psalms. As we praise and thank God for material and spiritual blessings, we should also thank him for answered prayer. Remember when you asked God for protection, strength, comfort, patience, love, or other special needs, and he supplied them. Beware of taking God’s provision and answered prayer for granted.

Every person dreams and makes plans for the future. Then they work hard to see those dreams and plans come true.   But to make the most of life, we must include God’s plan in our plans. He alone knows what is best for us; he alone can fulfill his purpose for us. As you make plans and dream dreams, talk with God about them. (NLT)

Psalm 138:1-8 – I give you thanks, O Lord, with all my heart; I will sing your praises before the gods. I bow before your holy Temple as I worship. I will give thanks to your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness, because your promises are backed by all the honor of your name. When I pray, you answer me; you encourage me by giving me the strength I need.

Every king in all the earth will give you thanks, O Lord, for all of them will hear your words. Yes, they will sing about the Lord’s ways, for the glory of the Lord is very great. Though the Lord is great, he cares for the humble, but he keeps his distance from the proud.

Though I am surrounded by troubles, you will preserve me against the anger of my enemies. You will clench your fist against my angry enemies! Your power will save me. The Lord will work out his plans for my life—for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever. Don’t abandon me, for you made me.
