DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Tuesday, January 6, 2015
Follow the advice given in Ephesians 4:31-32 – Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of malicious behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
I would like you to think about what I’m sharing from Anita Dualeh (Minnesota) story that she wrote for The Upper Room titled “IMITATION.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – How well do I imitate God in word and deed?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, fill us with the childlike desire to be like you. Draw us closer to you, and fill us with your love for those around us. Amen.
Prayer Focus: TO REFLECT GOD’S LOVE TO THOSE AROUND ME

We can bring sorrow to the Holy Spirit by the way we live. Paul warns us against unwholesome language, bitterness, improper use of anger, harsh words, slander, and bad attitudes toward others. Instead of acting that way, we should be forgiving, just as God has forgiven us. Are you bringing sorrow or pleasing God with your attitudes and actions? Act in love toward your brothers and sisters in Christ, just as God acted in love by sending his Son to die for your sins.
Just as children imitate their parents, we should follow God’s example. His great love for us led him to sacrifice himself so that we might live. Our love for others should be of the same kind-a love that goes beyond affection to self-sacrificing service. (NLT)
Ephesians 4:30-5:2 – And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he is the one who has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.
Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of malicious behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
Follow God’s example in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love for others, following the example of Christ, who loved you and gave himself as a sacrifice to take away your sins. And God was pleased, because that sacrifice was like sweet perfume to him.
