DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Friday, February 13, 2015

I am sharing today’s thought for the day by Richard Gillum (Maryland). Richard’s title of his story is “LOVING RELATIONSHIPS.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – How will I make time for my relationship with God and with others today?

Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, help us to obey your commandments of love and remain in right relationship with you and others. Amen.

Scripture reading:

The Pharisees, who had classified over 600 laws, often tried to distinguish the more important from the less important. So one of them, an “expert in religious law,” asked Jesus to identify the most important law.

Jesus said that if we truly love God and our neighbor, we will naturally keep the commandments. This is looking at God’s law positively. Rather than worrying about all we should not do, we should concentrate on all we can do to show our love for God and others. (NLT)

Matthew 22:34-40 – But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees with his reply, they thought up a fresh question of their own to ask him. One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap him with this question: “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”

Jesus replied, “’You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the other commandments and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”
