DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Tuesday, March 1, 2015

Scripture reading:

As a believer, you are not left to your own resources to cope with problems. Even when you don’t know the right words to pray, the Holy Spirit prays with and for you, and God answers. With God helping you pray, you don’t need to be afraid to come before him. Ask the Holy Spirit to intercede for you “in harmony with God’s own will.” Then, when you bring your requests to God, trust that he will always do what is best.

God works in “everything”—not just isolated incidents—for our good. People that trust in God, not in worldly treasures; their security is in heaven, not on earth. Such people have a new perspective, a new mind-set. Their faith in God does not waver in pain and persecution because they know God is with them. (NLT)

Romans 8:26-32 – And the Holy Spirit helps us in our distress. For we don’t even know what we should pray for, nor how we should pray. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn, with many brothers and sisters. And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And he gave them right standing with himself, and he promised them his glory.

What can we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since God did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t God, who gave us Christ, also give us everything else?

Praise be to . . . the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. – 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV)

Romans 8:28 – And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God . . .

Prayer to keep family safe

Romans 8:28 is a verse that goes along with an amazing and inspirational story from Jean Glick (Florida) titled “WORKING FOR GOOD.” Here is Jean’s story:

“When I was diagnosed with cancer, people started to pray for me – missionaries, church friends, and relatives. That was two years ago last month. As time went by, I wondered why God had sustained my life. Surely God must have a job that I should be doing! My previous service was in places like Kenya, Uganda, Ecuador, and Poland, but I reasoned, I can’t do anything like that now that I have cancer.

“Last month I had the privilege to go back to my hometown, and I think I have discovered my job. I found so many of my friends to be disabled, in pain, hospitalized, in nursing homes, or suffering from just growing old. I stayed four weeks and was blessed to be able to visit these friends, help them in and out of cars, go to lunch, or just enjoy a telephone call. I may have cancer, but I do not have any pain or disability – either physical or mental. What a blessing I received from my friends! Now that I am back home, I will continue my volunteer job of driving cancer patients to their appointments. I feel truly blessed that God has directed me to this new area of service.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – On any day, if I look around, I will find someone to help.

Prayer: Dear God, help us to remember that all things work together for good to those who love you and who are called for your purpose. Amen.
