DAILY DEVOTIONAL –Monday, April 13, 2015
A God who tenderly searches for sinners and then joyfully forgives them must possess an extraordinary love! This is the kind of love that prompted Jesus to come to earth to search for lost people and save them. This is the kind of extraordinary love that God has for you. If you feel far from God, don’t despair. He is searching for you.
Each individual is precious to God. He grieves over every loss and rejoices whenever one of his children is found and brought into the Kingdom. (NLT)
Luke 15:4-10 – [Jesus said] “If you had one hundred sheep, and one of them strayed away and was lost in the wilderness, wouldn’t you leave the ninety-nine others to go and search for the lost one until you found it? And then you would joyfully carry it home on your shoulders. When you arrived, you would call together your friends and neighbors to rejoice with you because your lost sheep was found. In the same way, heaven will be happier over one lost sinner who returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!
“Or suppose a woman has ten valuable silver coins and loses one. Won’t she light a lamp and look in every corner of the house and sweep every nook and cranny until she find sit? And when she finds it, she will call in her friends and neighbors to rejoice with her because she has found her lost coin. In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.”
The Lord said to Moses, “If you faithfully obey me and stay true to my covenant, you will be my most precious possession out of all the peoples, since the whole earth belongs to me.” – Exodus 19:5 (CEB)
Hannah Covington (Illinois) titled her story “TRUE TREASURES;” here is a portion of Hannah’s story:
“. . . My mother knew where every ring and pearl necklace was placed. If one went missing, she scoured our home until she found it. She often reminded me, ‘Hannah, as you collect special things, remember to treat them like the treasures they are.’ I have taken her words to heart. . .
“Sometimes we forget that God views us as special treasures. When I struggle to feel beautiful or valued, I think of my mother’s jewelry box and realize that God sees me as a precious jewel to be protected and loved. . .”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – God treasures us so that we can treasure others.
