DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Saturday, October 10, 2015

Today’s scripture reading:

God’s love is total, says Paul. It reaches every corner of our experience. It is wide–it covers the breadth of our own experience, and it reaches out to the whole world. God’s love is long–it continues the length of our lives. It is high–it rises to the heights of our celebration and elation. His love is deep–it reaches to the depths of discouragement, despair, and even death. When you feel shut out or isolated, remember that you can never be lost to God’s love.

This “fullness” is fully expressed only in Christ. In union with Christ and through his empower Spirit, we are complete. We have all the fullness of God available to us. But we must appropriate that fullness through faith and through prayer as we daily live for him. Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians is also for you. You can ask the Holy Spirit to fill every aspect of your life to the fullest. (NLT)

Ephesians 3:13-21 – So please don’t despair because of what they are doing to me here. It is for you that I am suffering, so you should feel honored and encouraged.

When I think of the wisdom and scope of God’s plan, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will give you mighty inner strength through his Holy Spirit. And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love. And may you have the power to understand, as all Gods people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love really is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it. Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Now glory be to God! By his mighty power at work within us, he is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope. May he be given glory in the church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever through endless ages. Amen.

Mark A. Carter (Texas) titled his story “DEEP-ROOTED FAITH;” here is a portion of Mark’s story:

“. . . In life, we often face a similar situation. When life is good, we can sometimes forget how much God does for us. Only when we have problems — the ‘droughts’ of life — is our faith truly tested. If our faith in God is shallow, then when the going gets tough, our faith does not grow. But if we have a deeply rooted relationship with God, then we can endure any problem this world can bring. With this kind of faith we know that God is with us even when we are facing the worst circumstances. No matter what, God’s living water runs deep and never fails.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – With God, sometimes the lowest point in life can be the strongest point in life.

Prayer: All-powerful God, when life has made us weak, help us to have the faith to depend upon your strength. Amen.
