DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Friday, October 23, 2015

Today’s scripture reading:

The “prayer offered in faith” does not refer to the faith of the sick person but to the faith of the people praying. God heals, faith doesn’t, and all prayers are subject to God’s will. But prayer is part of God’s healing process.

The Christian’s most powerful resource is communion with God through prayer. The results are often greater than we thought were possible. Some people see prayer as a last resort to be tried when all else fails. This approach is backward. Prayer should come first. Because God’s power is infinitely greater than ours, it only makes sense to rely on it–especially because God encourages us to do so. (NLT)

James 5:13-16 – Are any among you suffering? They should keep on praying about it. And those who have reason to be thankful should continually sing praises to the Lord.

Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil int he name of the Lord. And their prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make them well. And anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven.

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results.

Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. — James 5:13 (NIV)

Leena Vijaykumar’s (Karnataka, India) story is titled “A FORGOTTEN PRAYER REQUEST;” here is a portion of Leena’s story:

“. . . We often tend to forget our neighbors and those in trouble — even those who seek us out and request our prayers. It takes effort to live as a Christian — especially in India where we are only about two percent of the population. But it’s worth it because we can make a difference in the lives of those around us as we pray for those in need.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – When someone asks me for prayer today, I will not forget.

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, we thank you for teaching us to pray. Help us to use prayer to bring more people to you. Amen.
