DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Saturday, October 31, 2015
Today’s scripture reading:
Knowing that God is in control allows us to wait patiently for him to rescue us. True relief does not come when the problem is resolved because more problems are on the way! True relief comes from an enduring hope in God’s ultimate salvation. Only then will all trials be resolved.
David must have been far from home when he wrote this psalm. Fortunately, God is not limited to any geographic location. Even when we are among strange people and surroundings, God never abandons us. His all-surpassing strength is always with us.
David made a vow to praise God each day. David continually praised God through both the good and difficult times of his life. Do you find something to praise God for each day? As you do, you will find your heart elevated from daily distractions to lasting confidence. (NLT)
Psalm 62:1-8 – I wait quietly before God, for my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken.
So many enemies against one man–all of them trying to kill me. To them I’m just a broken-down wall or a tottering fence. They plan to topple me from my high position. They delight in telling lies about me. They are friendly to my face, but they curse me in their hearts.
I wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me.
O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge.
Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. — Psalm 62:1-2 (NIV)
David Hughes (Australian Capital, Australia) titled his story “OUR GREAT FORTRESS;” here is a portion of David’s story:
“. . . Fervently, I prayed the words of the psalmist quoted above as chemotherapy did its work within my body.
“This was a time of profound pain, confusion, and fear for me. But from this scripture I called out to God and, quicker than breath, the Great Comforter filled me with a sense of peace.
“Though the seas grow strong, though the winds grow violent, and though our footing may falter, we can always find refuge in God’s arms. Regardless of our circumstances, our suffering and pain, one truth remains: God is our fortress; we will never be shaken.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – Today I will remember the faithfulness of God.
Prayer: Dear Father, may our eyes never leave your beauty. You alone are all that we need. Amen.
Prayer Focus: CHILDREN UNDERGOING CHEMOTHERAPY
