DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Sunday, November 15, 2015

Today’s scripture reading:

God has made a covenant with Noah that he has never broken. Likewise, God made a covenant of peace with the people of Israel that the time would come when he would stop pouring out his anger on them; he would teach their citizens and give them prosperity. (NLT)

Isaiah 55:8-13 – “My thoughts are completely different form yours,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

“The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. You will live in joy and peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song, and the trees of the field will clap their hands! Where once there were thorns, cypress trees will grow. Where briers grew, myrtles will sprout up. This miracle will bring great honor to the Lord’s name; it will be an everlasting sign of his power and love.

Purpose

The Lord says, “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish . . . so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. — Isaiah 55:10-11 (NIV)

Karen S. Weaver (Ohio) titled her story “LET IT SNOW;” here is a portion of Karen’s story:

“. . . The snow is beautiful, but it also serves a purpose. . . .

“Such is God’s word to our hearts and minds. When we read the Bible, it may apply to our lives at the moment or it may not soak in immediately but remain in our hearts until a new season. As it cycles through our lives, it brings growth and refreshment to our souls.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – The words of scripture refresh our hearts.

Prayer: Dear God, as we read your word, let us learn from it and let it soak into our hearts so that we feel refreshed in you. Amen.
