DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Saturday, November 21, 2015

Today’s scripture reading:

We have significant privileges associated with our new life in Christ: (1) We have personal access to God through Christ and can draw near to him without an elaborate system; (2) we may grow in faith, overcome doubts and questions, and deepen our relationship with God; (3) we may enjoy encouragement from one another. (NLT)

Hebrews 10:19-24 – And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. This is the new, life-giving way that Christ has opened up for us through the sacred curtain, by means of his death for us.

And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s people, let us go right into the presence of God, with true hearts fully trusting him. For our evil consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.

Without wavering, let us hold tightly to the hope we say we have, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Think of ways to encourage one another to outbursts of love and good deeds.

Caryl Moss (Gauteng, South Africa) titled her story “MADE CLEAN;” here is a portion of Caryl’s story:

“. . . In a similar way, the stains in my soul may be difficult to deal with. How often do I simply brush off my transgressions? I forget about the unkind words that have left my mouth or the overdue apology. Maybe I have hurt someone badly and simply swept the incident under the carpet. Sometimes my sin may be more serious, seemingly unforgivable. At these times, my relationship with God is affected.

“But there is hope. No matter our personal blemishes, we can have confidence in God’s amazing grace. Jesus’ death on the cross offers us the opportunity to come clean and to be forgiven. We can start again with a spotless new life and a wholesome relationship with our heavenly Father.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – Christ’s sacrifice has taken away the stain of my sin and washed me clean.

Prayer: Thank you, merciful God, that we can come before you, confess our sins, and receive forgiveness. Thank you for the new and clean life that you offer each of us. Amen.
