DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Monday, November 30, 2015
Today’s scripture reading:
God’s Word makes us wise—wiser than our enemies and wiser than any teachers who ignore it. True wisdom goes beyond amassing knowledge; it is applying knowledge in a life-changing way. Intelligent or experienced people are not necessarily wise. Wisdom comes from allowing God’s teachings to guide us. (NLT)
Psalm 119:97-106 – Oh, how I love your law! I think about it all day long. Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for your commands are my constant guide. Yes, I have more insight than my teachers, for I am always thinking of your decrees. I am even wiser than my elders, for I have kept your commandments. I have refused to walk on any path of evil, that I may remain obedient to your word. I haven’t turned away from your laws, for you have taught me well. How sweet are your words to my taste; they are sweeter than honey. Your commandments give me understanding; no wonder I hate every false way of life.
Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. I’ve promised it once, and I’ll promise again: I will obey your wonderful laws.
The psalmist wrote, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, and a light on my path.” — Psalm 119:105 (NIV)
Linawati Santoso’s (East Java, Indonesia) story is titled “NEAR TO GOD;” here is a portion of Linawati’s story:
“. . . ‘. . . So if we want to learn to love God and build a strong relationship with him, we should spend much time reading the Bible, God’s word to us.’
“My friend’s thoughts left me speechless, but I knew he was right. . .
“How important it is to read the Bible! From these words of love we can come to know more about God and God’s good purpose for us. God then becomes a close, intimate friend rather than a distant being. As we spend time in prayer and devotion with God, we can begin to imitate God’s love and be a light to shine upon the darkness of our world.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – The Bible, like a love letter, is meant to be read over and over again.
Prayer: Beloved God, help us to read the Bible diligently so we can know more about you and your love for us and all people. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
