DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Sunday, December 6, 2015
Today’s scripture reading:
As a believer, you are not left to your own resources to cope with problems. Even when you don’t know the right words to pray, the Holy Spirit prays with and for you, and God answers. With God helping you pray, you don’t need to be afraid to come before him. Ask the Holy Spirit to intercede for you “in harmony with God’s own will.” Then, when you bring your requests to God, trust that he will always do what is best.
God’s ultimate goal for us is to make us like Christ. As we become more and more like him, we discover our true selves, the persons we were created to be. How can we become like Chirst? By reading and heeding the Word, by studying his life on earth through the Gospels, by spending time in prayer, by being filled with his Spirit, and by doing his work in the world. (NLT)
Romans 8:26-31 – And the Holy Spirit helps us in our distress. For we don’t even know what we should pray for, nor how we should pray. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn, with many brothers and sisters. And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And he gave them right standing with himself, and he promised them his glory.
What can we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?
We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose — Romans 8:28 (NIV)
Here is a portion of Cesar Eduardo Lavoura Romao’s (Sao Paulo, Brazil):
“. . . When things don’t turn out the way we plan, we can become frustrated and scared. But if we devote ourselves to living faithfully, acknowledging that God is with us, we will be uplifted and strengthened. God’s care for us is real and everlasting in any circumstance life brings.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – God can bring new life out of any situation.
Prayer: Loving Father, forgive us when we feel the need to be in control and forget that you are guiding our way. Thank you for caring for us during troubling times. Amen.
