DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Friday, December 11, 2015

Today’s scripture reading:

A “sacrifice of praise” today would include thanking Christ for his sacrifice on the cross and telling others about it. Acts of kindness and sharing are particularly pleasing to God, even when to go unnoticed by others.

The task of church leaders is to help people mature in Christ. Cooperative followers greatly ease the burden of leadership. Does your conduct give your leaders reason to report joyfully about you?

The writer recognizes the need for prayer. Christian leaders are especially vulnerable to criticism from others, pride (if they succeed), depression (if they fail), and Satan’s constant efforts to destroy their work for God. They desperately need our prayers! For whom should you regularly pray?

God works in us to make us the kind of people that would please him, and he equips us to do the kind of work that would please him. Let God change you from within and then use you to help others. (NLT)

Hebrews 13:16-21 – Don’t forget to do good and to share what you have with those in need, for such sacrifices are very pleasing to God.

Obey your spiritual leaders and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they know they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this joyfully and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit.

Pray for us, for our conscience is clear and we want to live honorably in everything we do. I especially need your prayers right now so that I can come back to you soon.

And now, may the God of peace, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, all that is pleasing to him. Jesus is the great Shepherd of the sheep by an everlasting covenant, signed with his blood. To him be glory forever and ever. Amen.

Kindness doesnt cost a thing

James C. Hendrix (Indiana) titled his story “SHARING GOD’S GOODNESS;” here is a portion of James’s story:

“. . . Many years ago, a former student stopped by my office with a Christmas gift. As she handed me the paper bag, she smiled and thanked me for the study tips I had given her during the semester. . . .

“Just as the young woman shared with me, God gives us opportunities to share and is pleased when we extend kindness to others. Today we can reach out to people in simple ways – a phone call, a hug, or a kind word. By doing good and sharing with others, we show our gratitude for God’s love and mercy.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – Today I will look for ways to share God’s love.

Prayer: Dear Lord, teach me how to share your love with others. Amen.
