DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Tuesday, December 22, 2015
Today’s scripture reading:
God’s love is not static or self-centered; it reaches out and draws others in. Here God sets the pattern of true love, the basis for all love relationships—when you love someone dearly, you are willing to give freely to the point of self-sacrifice. God paid dearly with the life of his Son, the highest price he could pay. Jesus accepted our punishment, paid the price for our sins, and then offered us the new life that he had bought for us. When we share the Good News with others, our love must be like Jesus’—willingly giving up our own comfort and security so that others might join us in receiving God’s love. (NLT)
John 3:11-17 – [Jesus said] “I assure you, I am telling you what we know and have seen, and yet you won’t believe us. But if you don’t even believe me when I tell you about things that happen here on earth, how can you possibly believe if I tell you what is going on in heaven? For only I, the Son of Man, have come to earth and will return to heaven again. And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so I, the Son of Man, must be lifted up on a pole, so that everyone who believes in me will have eternal life.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it. . .”
Misako Hatano (Nagasaki, Japan) titled her story “THE FAMILY OF GOD;” here is a portion of Misako’s story:
“From the time I was a child, I have never experienced the fullness of love from my family. . . .
“I am even more amazed by the love God expresses for us every day – even at this very moment. Along with my brothers and sisters in the faith, I have found the love I had been missing. With them, I pray that we will be able to share God’s love with those who do not know it.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – God is loving me at this very moment.
Prayer: Our Father, we thank you that you have made us your family through your grace shown in Jesus. Help us to love you more deeply each day as we also love others. Amen.
Prayer Focus: CHILDREN WHO FEEL UNLOVED
