DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Thursday, December 31, 2015

Today’s scripture reading:

John writes about having fellowship with other believers. There are three principles behind true Christian fellowship: First, our fellowship is grounded in the testimony of God’s Word. Without this underlying strength, togetherness is impossible. Second, it is mutual, depending on the unity of believers. Third, it is renewed daily through the Holy Spirit. True fellowship combines social and spiritual interaction, and it is made possible only through a living relationship with Christ. (NLT)

1 John 1:3-10 – We are telling you about what we ourselves have actually seen and heard, so that you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.

We are writing these things so that our joy will be complete.

This is the message he has given us to announce to you: God is light and there is no darkness in him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness. We are not living in the truth. But if we are living in the light of God’s presence, just as Christ is, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from every sin.

If we say we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and refusing to accept the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts.

Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.  — Matthew 5:16 (NIV)

Robert Abel (Maryland) titled his story “REFLECTIONS;” here is a portion of Robert’s story:

“. . . I am not a perfect reflection of Christ, but I find comfort in the knowledge that God doesn’t expect me to be perfect but only to be as faithful as I can be. Even with our imperfections, God calls us to be faithful reflections of God’s love. Who will see Christ through us today?”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – God does not expect perfection – only faithfulness.
