DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Monday, February 29, 2016
Today’s scripture reading:
To be like Christ, we must train ourselves to think like Christ. To change our desires to be more like Christ’s, we need the power of the indwelling Spirit, the influence of faithful Christians, obedience to God’s Word (not just exposure to it), and sacrificial service. Often it is in doing God’s will that we gain the desire to do it. Do what he wants and trust him to change your desires.
Our life should be characterized by moral purity, patience, and peacefulness, so that we will “shine brightly” in a dark and depraved world. A transformed life is an effective witness to the power of God’s Word. Is your life shining brightly, or is it clouded by complaining and arguing? Shine out for God. (NLT)
Philippians 2:12-18 – Dearest friends, you were always so careful to follow my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away you must be even more careful to put into action God’s saving work in your lives, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire to obey him and the power to do what pleases him.
In everything you do, stay away from complaining and arguing, so that no one can speak a word of blame against you. You are to live clean, innocent lives as children of God in a dark world full of crooked and perverse people. Let your lives shine brightly before them. Hold tightly to the word of life, so that when Christ returns, I will be proud that I did not lose the race and that my work was not useless. But even if my life is to be poured out like a drink offering to complete the sacrifice of your faithful service (that is, if I am to die for you), I will rejoice, and I want to share my joy with all of you. And you should be happy about this and rejoice with me.
It is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. – Philippians 2:13
Jennifer Brigandi (Ontario, Canada) titled her story “GOD WORKING IN ME;” here is a portion of Jennifer’s story:
“. . . Philippians 2:13 helped me realize that God doesn’t call everyone for every purpose. God works in each of us in different ways. In meditating on these words, I realized that while I was waiting for others to do something, God was urging me to help my church attract younger people. God was working in me for this specified purpose. I simply need to answer God’s call.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – What is God calling me to do?
Prayer: Dear God, help us recognize and respond to your call so that we may work according to your purpose. Amen.
