DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Sunday, March 6, 2016

Today’s scripture reading:

God promised Abraham that he would bless the world through braham’s descendants, the Jewish race, from which the Messiah would come. God intended the Jewish nation to be a separate and holy nation that would teach the world about God, introduce the Messiah, and then carry on his work in the world. After the days of Solomon, the nation gave up its mission to tell the world about God. Here, too, in apostolic times as well as in the times Jesus spent on earth, Israel rejected its Messiah. (NLT)

Acts 3:24-26 – “Starting with Samuel, every prophet spoke about what is happening today. You are the children of those prophets, and you are included in the covenant God promised to your ancestors. For God said to Abraham, ‘Through your descendants all the families on earth will be blessed.’ When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you people of Israel, to bless you by turning each of you back from your sinful ways.”

B. J. Woods’s (Texas) story is titled “BLOODLINES;” here is a portion of B. J.’s story:

“. . . parents pass down many physical characteristics to their biological children. But the examples we set for those around us often have an even greater influence on their lives. Prejudice or indifference toward others might be passed down in a community for many generations. Because children learn much from observation, we can all influence the lives of children, even if we have none of our own. And so it is with God’s children.

“Jesus Christ came to save the world and to set an example of sacrificial love for us to follow. As Christians, we should strive to set a similar example for those around us. When younger generations receive Christlike spiritual and moral messages from the adults who influence their lives, they can receive good traits, a strong foundation, and a legacy that will continue for many generations.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – Christlike words and actions help children to live faithfully.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to set a Christlike example for others. Amen.
