DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Wednesday, March 16, 2016

Today’s scripture reading:

Hiding (keeping) God’s Word in our heart is a deterrent to sin. This alone should inspire us to memorize Scripture. But memorization alone will not keep us from sin; we must also put God’s Word to work in our life, making it a vital guide for everything we do. (NLT)

Psalm 119:10-16 – I have tried my best to find you—don’t let me wander from your commands. I have hidden your work in my heart, that I might no sin against you. Blessed are you, O Lord; teach me your principles. I have recited aloud all the laws you gave given us. I have rejoiced in your decrees as much as in riches. I will study your commandments and reflect on your ways. I will delight in your principles and not forget your word.

The word is very near to you; it is in your mouth and in your heart for you to observe. – Deuteronomy 30:14 (NRSV)

Carla Haddix (Florida) titled her story “CUSTOMIZED DEVOTIONS;” here is a portion of Carla’s story:

“. . . Recently, I added a new twist to my devotional time. I read the day’s scripture passage, sit back, close my eyes, and ‘write’ my own meditation. I think of a situation in my life where the scripture has applied or might be applied. . . .”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – God’s word is a lamp for our feet, a light for our path. (See Ps. 119:105.)

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for the opportunity to engage with scripture in new ways each day. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

In this life, we walk through a dark forest of evil. But the Bible can be our light to show us te way ahead so we won’t stumble as we walk. It reveals the entangling roots of false values and philosophies. Study the Bible so you will be able to see your way clear enough to stay on the right path. (NLT)

Psalm 119:105 – Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path.
