DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Wednesday, March 23, 2016

Today’s scripture reading:

“The darkness can never extinguish it” means the darkness of evil never has and never will overcome God’s light. Jesus Christ is the Creator of life, and his life brings light to humankind. In his light, we see ourselves as we really are (sinners in need of a Savior). When we follow Jesus, the true Light, we can avoid walking blindly and falling into sin. He lights the path ahead of us so we can see how to live. He removes the darkness of sin from our lives. Have you allowed the light of Christ to shine into your life? Let Christ guide your life, and you’ll never need to stumble in darkness. (NLT)

John 1:1-5 – In the beginning the Word already existed. He was with God, and he was God. He was in the beginning with God. He created everything there is. Nothing exists that he didn’t make. Life itself was in him, and this life gives light to everyone. The light shines through the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” — John 8:12 (NIV)

Everard Blackman’s (Queensland, Australia) story is titled “THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD;” here is a portion of Everard’s story:

“. . . As I watched the tiny snuffer cup being lowered over the flame, cutting off its flow of oxygen, I was gripped by a powerful spiritual awareness. If we are to be lights for Christ in the world, we must have a source of life-giving spiritual energy. Without constant renewal by God’s Spirit our light dims.

“Our spiritual renewal comes through sharing in worship – praying, reading scripture, and singing great hymns – fellowship with other Christians, and acts of live and service. When we accept the grace offered in each of these practices, we will shine brightly and not burn out.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – God’s life-giving light of love will brighten any darkness.

Prayer: God of life and light, renew us by the power and presence of your Holy Spirit. May our lives shine with your love. Amen.

Prayer Focus: THOSE EXPERIENCING DOUBT AND DESPAIR
