DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Tuesday, March 29, 2016

Today’s scripture reading:

God has chosen us to be Christ’s representatives on earth. In light of this truth, Paul challenges us to live lives worthy of the calling we have received—the awesome privilege of being called Christ’s very own. This includes being humble, gentle, patient, understanding, and peaceful. People are watching your life. Can they see Christ in you? How well are you doing as his representative?

To build unity is one of the Holy Spirit’s important roles. He leads, but we have to be willing to be led and to do our part to keep the peace. We do that by focusing on God, not on ourselves.

God is “over all”—this shows his overruling care (transcendence). He is “in us all” and “living through us all”—this shows his active presence in the world and in the lives of believers (immanence). Any view of God that violates either his transcendence or his immanence does not paint a true picture of God. (NLT)

Ephesians 4:2-6 – Be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Always keep yourselves united in the Holy Spirit, and bind yourselves together with peace.

We are all one body, we have the same Spirit, and we have all been called to the same glorious future. There is only one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and there is only one God and Father, who is over us all and in us all and living through us all.

Be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord. – Ephesians 5:18-19 (NIV)

Lynn Hare’s (Oregon) story is titled “IN SYNC;” here is a portion of Lynn’s story:

“. . . In our communities of faith, conflicts will come up and we may fall out of sync along the way. When that happens, we can pay attention to the guidance of our patient and loving Conductor. We can listen to one another and pick up where we left off, going forward with unity through the bond of peace.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – How can I stay in sync with the Holy Spirit in times of conflict?

Prayer: Peace-loving Father, in times of conflict, show us how to be in sync with your Spirit. Amen.
