DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Saturday, April 16, 2016
Today’s scripture reading:
The seeds of comfort may take root in the soil of adversity. When your life seems to be falling apart, ask God to comfort you. You may not escape adversity, but you may find God’s comfort as you face it. Sometimes, however, the only comfort we have is in the knowledge that someday we will be with God. Appreciate the comfort and encouragement found in his Word, his presence, and his people.
Preparing a straight, smooth road means removing obstacles and rolling out the red carpet for the coming of the Lord. The desert is a picture of life’s trials and sufferings. We are not immune to these, but our faith need not be hindered by them. Isaiah told people to prepare to see God work. (NLT)
Isaiah 40:1-5 – “Comfort, comfort my people,” says your God. “Speak tenderly to Jerusalem. Tell her that her sad days are gone and that her sins are pardoned. Yes, the Lord has punished her in full for all her sins.”
Listen! I hear the voice of someone shouting, “Make a highway for the Lord through the wilderness. Make a straight, smooth road through the desert for our God. Fill the valleys and level the hills. Straighten out the curves and smooth off the rough spots. Then the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. The Lord has spoken!”
The psalmist wrote, “I lift up my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” — Psalm 121:1-2 (NIV)
Ann Stewart (South Australia, Australia) titled her story “HIGHER GROUND;” here is a portion of Ann’s story:
“. . . So often my problems can be like those hills. They can seem large and insurmountable from the valley of my own perspective. However, when I spend time praising and worshiping God and bring my problems to God in prayer, then I move to higher ground. The problems no longer seem huge and insurmountable. From a perspective shaped by God, they have become something God and I can easily cope with together. I need to constantly make the decision to shift my focus from myself and the burdens of life to God. On higher ground with God, although all things are not easy, all things are possible.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – I can decide to make God the focus of my life.
Prayer: Father God, help us to focus on you each day so that we can see things from a spiritual perspective and know that with you all things are possible. Amen.
Prayer Focus: FOR PERSPECTIVE WHEN PROBLEMS SEEM INSURMOUNTABLE
