DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Wednesday, June 22, 2016
Today’s scripture reading:
If no one has ever seen God, how can we ever know him? John in his Gospel said, “His only Son, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart; he has told us about him.” Jesus is the complete expression of God in human form, and he has revealed God to us. When we love one another, the invisible God, He reveals Himself to others through us, and his love is made complete. (NLT)
1 John 4:7-12 – Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from Gopd. Anyone who loves is born of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God—for God is love.
God showed how much he loved us by sending his only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love. It is not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.
Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love has been brought to full expression through us.
Paul wrote, “If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.” –1 Corinthians 13:1 (NIV)
Elaine Chipps (Western Province, South Africa) titled her story “NURTURING;” here is a portion of Elaine’s story:
“. . . it is important to remember that our Christian formation is a lifelong journey so that we do not become impatient with each other. Each person has his or her own lessons to learn. With God’s help, we can develop a strong and deep root system and sturdy stems and branches to support the good fruit of faith. As we become firmly grounded in God’s word, we gain a deeper knowledge and experience of God’s faithful love. We can trust God no matter the circumstances.
“Just as I care for and nurture my plants, we can be sensitive to the faith journeys of others, providing encouragement and support. We can do this by being attentive to God, who helps us grow, and by always acting in love.”
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for placing loving people in our lives to help us grow in faith. Amen.
