DAILY DEVOTIONAL – Thursday, August 4, 2016

Today’s scripture reading:

God has good, pleasing, and perfect plans for his children. He wants us to be transformed people with renewed minds, living to honor and obey him. Because he wants only what is best for us, and because he gave his Son to make our new life possible, we should joyfully give ourselves as living sacrifices for his service.

God made it clear that obedience from the heart was much more important. God wants us to offer ourselves, not animals, as living sacrifices—daily laying aside our own desires to follow him, putting all our energy and resources at his disposal and trusting him to guide us. (NLT)

Romans 12:1-2 – And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will accept. When you think of what he has done for you, is this too much to ask? Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is.

Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. – Romans 12:11 (NIV)

Ruben G. Garza (Texas) titled his story “SHAPING YOUR LIFE;” here is a portion of Ruben’s story:

“. . . I strive to strengthen my faith through intentional practice by studying the Bible and reading Christian books. I try to be conscious of my surroundings and look for opportunities to witness to God’s love through my actions. I regularly attend church, Sunday school, and a Christian accountability group. I read scripture and a daily devotional every morning, comparing what I read and hear with my everyday life.

“Even with practice, I sometimes struggle in my faith. Yet, I am improving. As I spend more time studying and seeking to do God’s work, I more fully live into the life of discipleship I have chosen.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – I will shape my life with Christian study and action.

Prayer: Steadfast God, help us to discern and to choose your will for our lives. Amen.

Prayer Focus: THOSE SEEKING A CLOSER RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
