Today’s scripture reading:
Sometimes we don’t let people get to know us completely because we are afraid they will discover something about us that they won’t like. But God already knows everything about us, even to the number of hairs on our heads, and still he accepts and loves us. God is with us through every situation, in every trial—protecting, loving, guiding. He knows and loves us completely. (NLT)
Psalm 139:1-12 – O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I set down or stand up. You know my every thought when far away. You chart the path ahead of me and tell me where to stop and rest. Every moment you know where I am. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. You both precede and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to know!
I can never escape from your spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the place of the dead, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there you hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night—but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are both alike to you.
Sharon Owens-Davis (New Jersey) titled her story “INNER PEACE;” here is a portion of Sharon’s story:
“I have recently formed a friendship with my friend’s son, who is in prison. . . . In one letter he shared his thoughts on ways of keeping himself focused on positive things: communing with God and allowing God’s word to uplift him, encourage him, and comfort him when he is having negative, self-defeating thoughts. . . .
“I have learned from my friend’s letters that our minds can be free no matter where we are – even in an uncomfortable place. Conversely, we can be physically free to move about in search of peace, but our minds may not find true contentment. If we are honest, we can all admit to having some form of confinement that threatens our peace. . . . Wherever we are, wherever we go, God is there. Those whom God sets free are free indeed!”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – Because God has set me free, I am free indeed.
