Today’s scripture reading:

We need not fear because (1) God is with us (“I am with you”), (2) God has established a relationship with us (“I am your God”), and (3) God gives us assurance of his strength, help, and victory over sin and death. Are you aware of all the ways God has helped you? (NLT)

Isaiah 41:5-10 – The lands beyond the sea watch in fear. Remote lands tremble and mobilize for war. They encourage one another with the words, “Be strong!” The craftsmen rush to make new idols. The carver hurries the goldsmith, and the molder helps at the anvil. “Good,” they say. “It’s coming along fine.” Carefully they join the parts together, then fasten the thing in place so it won’t fall over.

“But as for you, Israel my servant, Jacob my chosen one, descended from my friend Abraham, I have called you back from the ends of the earth so you can serve me. For I have chosen you and will not throw you away. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.”

[God] has made everything beautiful in its time. –Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV)

Betsy Thompson (Indiana) titled her story “SEASONS OF LIFE;” here is a portion of Betsy’s story:

“Last week I had dinner with a longtime friend. During our conversation, my friend said she realized we are in the autumn of our lives. Initially this made me feel sad, as I sometimes fear the passing of time and the thought of death. The reality is that most of my life is behind me now.

“. . . God still has work for us to do, so we can slow down, sit quietly, and listen for guidance. We can trust in God’s perfect timing and assurance to be with us in our fears. We can find comfort in God’s promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – God is with us during all the seasons of our lives.

Prayer: Gracious God, we thank you for the beauty of your earth and for the seasons of our lives. Help us to come to you with our fears, knowing that you will strengthen and uphold us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
