Today’s scripture reading:
As people filled with light, our actions should reflect our faith. We should live above reproach morally so that we will reflect God’s goodness to others.
It is important to avoid the “worthless deeds of evil and darkness” (any pleasure or activity that results in sin), but we must go even further. Paul instructs us to expose these deeds, because our silence may be interpreted as approval. God needs people who will take a stand for what is right. Christians must lovingly speak out for what is true and right. (NLT)
Ephesians 5:6-14 – Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the terrible anger of God comes upon all those who disobey him. Don’t participate in the things these people do. For though your hearts were once full of darkness, now you are full of light from the Lord, and your behavior should show it! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.
Try to find out what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, rebuke and expose them. It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret. But when the light shines on them, it becomes clear how evil these things are. And where your light shines, it will expose their evil deeds. This is why it is said, “Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light.”
So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! –2 Corinthians 5:17 (NRSV)
Connie Gochenaur (Indiana) titled her story “HELP UP TO THE LIGHT;” here is a portion of Connie’s story:
“. . . I am comforted by the promise in the verse quoted above. The light of Christ makes all things new. What a good and gracious God we have who re-creates our lives! I continued to examine the tablecloths, no longer disappointed. . . . In the same way, Jesus offers us new life and a new purpose.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – No matter my sins, God can restore me.
Prayer: Light of the World, reveal our sins, and make us into your new creations. Amen.
Prayer Focus: THOSE WHO KNOW THEIR HIDDEN SINS
