Guide me, lead me, be beside me

Today’s scripture reading:

Beneath the surface of the routine of daily life, a fierce struggle among invisible spiritual powers is being waged. Our main defense is prayer that God will protect us from the evil one and that he will strengthen us. The following guidelines can help you prepare for and survive satanic attacks: (1) Take the threat of spiritual attack seriously; (2) pray for strength and help from God; (3) study the Bible to recognize Satan’s style and tactics; (4) memorize Scripture so it will be a source of help no matter where you are; (5) associate with those who speak the truth; and (6) practice what you are taught by spiritual leaders. (NLT)

2 Thessalonians 3:1-5 – Finally, dear brothers and sisters, I ask you to pray for us. Pray first that the Lord’s message will spread rapidly and be honored wherever it goes, just as when it came to you. Pray, too, that we will be saved from wicked and evil people, for not everyone believes in the Lord. But the Lord is faithful; he will make you strong and guard you from the evil one. And we are confident in the Lord that you are practicing the things we commanded you, and that you will always will. May the Lord bring you into an ever deeper understanding of the love of God and the endurance that comes from Christ.

May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ. –2 Thessalonians 3:5 (NRSV)

Bob La Forge (New Jersey) titled his story “GOD’S MARKERS;” here is a portion of Bob’s story:

“In 1920, the United States opened its first coast-to-coast airmail delivery route. . . . build a system of concrete arrows – stretching 70 feet along the ground – every ten miles from New York to San Francisco. . . . As long as the pilots followed the markers they would reach their destination. But if they veered off, they might have difficulty finding the route again.

“Similarly, God has given us a system of markers to direct our way, including the commandments, promises, precepts, and teachings in God’s word. They are the stories of the Bible’s people and the gift of Jesus Christ. They guide us through life; but when we wander away from them, we become lost and confused. The markers lead us straight to God’s love and forgiveness.

“. . . God’s truths will endure eternally. We can entrust our lives to such markers, knowing they will lead us directly to the heart of God.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – Where is God guiding me today?

Prayer: O God, help us listen for your voice in scripture – the voice that calls us and leads us through our lives. Amen.
