Today’s scripture reading:
The man with leprosy had an advanced case, so he undoubtedly had lost much bodily tissue. Still, he believed that Jesus could heal him of every trace of the disease.
Lepers were considered untouchable because people feared contracting their disease. Yet Jesus reached out and touched the leper to heal him. (NLT)
Luke 5:12-15 – In one of the villages, Jesus met a man with an advanced case of leprosy. When the man saw Jesus, he fell to the ground, face down in the dust, begging to be healed. “Lord,” he said, “If you want to, you can make me well again.”
Jesus reached out and touched the man. “I want to,” he said. “Be healed!” And instantly the leprosy disappeared. Then Jesus instructed him not to tell anyone what had happened. He said, “Go right to the priest and let him examine you. Take along the offering required in the law of Moses for those who have been healed of leprosy, so everyone will have proof of your healing.” Yet despite Jesus’ instructions, the report of his power spread even faster, and vast crowds came to hear him preach and to be healed of their diseases.
It came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy; who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. –Luke 5:12 (KJV)
Antonio Wilson (Inhambane, Mozambique) titled his story “THE POWER OF JESUS;” here is a portion of Antonio’s story:
“. . . Jesus’ power shines in the midst of the greatest darkness. . . .
“. . . In the presence of the Lord we can always hope. However great our pain and problems or the difficulties and darkness in our past or in our present, Jesus has the power to restore us to new life.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – I can find hope for healing in Jesus.
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for your healing power in our lives. Grant us the strength to come to you in the face of good news and bad. Amen.
