Today’s scripture reading:

Does this [. . . “I am living in the light,” but hates a Christian brother or sister . . .] mean that if you dislike someone you aren’t a Christian? These verses are not talking about disliking a disagreeable Christian brother or sister. There will always be people we will not like as well as others. John’s words focus on the attitude that causes us to ignore or despise others, to treat them as irritants, competitors, or enemies. Christian love is not a feeling but a choice. We can choose to be concerned with people’s well-being and treat them with respect, whether or not we feel affection toward them. If we choose to love others, God will help us express our love.  (NLT)

Live in the light, do not cause anyone to stumble.

1 John 2:7-17 – Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment, for it is an old one you have always had, right from the beginning. This commandment—to love one another—is the same message you heard before. Yet it is also new. This commandment is true in Christ and is true among you, because the darkness is disappearing and the true light is already shining.

If anyone says, “I am living in the light,” but hates a Christian brother or sister, that person is still living in darkness. Anyone who loves other Christians is living in the light and does not cause anyone to stumble. Anyone who hates a Christian brother or sister is living and walking in darkness. Such a person is lost, having been blinded by the darkness.

I am writing to you, my dear children, because your sins have been forgiven because of Jesus.

I am writing to you who are mature because you know Christ, the one who is from the beginning.

I am writing to yo9u who are young because you have won your battle with Satan.

I have written to you, children, because you have known the Father.

I have written to you who are mature because you know Christ, the one who is from the beginning.

I have written to you who are young, because you are strong with God’s word living in your hearts, and you have won your battle with Satan.

Stop loving this evil world and all that it offers you, for when you love the world, you show that you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only the lust for physical pleasure, the lust for everything we see, and pride in our possessions. These are not from the Father. They are from this evil world. And this world is fading away, along with everything it craves. But if you do the will of God, you will live forever.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” –John 8:12 (NIV)

Meg Mangan (New South Wales, Australia) titled her story “CHOOSING THE LIGHT;” here is a portion of Meg’s story:

“. . . Sometimes our lives reflect a struggle similar to finding a good campsite in the dark. At times I try to live in my own limited light. It is possible but difficult, and I eventually realize why my life has become such a struggle. I then choose to stop ignoring Jesus’ presence, love, and strength, and choose to live in Christ’s light once again.

“Life is so much easier and richer when we live in the light of Christ. We can see where we are going and know that there is someone beside us, guiding and supporting us.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – Jesus is with me to guide and support me.

Prayer: Loving Jesus, thank you for your light which shows us the way. Help us always to strive to live in your light. Amen.
