Today’s scripture reading:

The people of Israel were foolish to act as if they knew what God was thinking and planning. His knowledge and wisdom are far greater than any humans. We are foolish to try to fit God into our mold—to make his plans and purposes conform to ours. Instead, we must strive to fit into His plans. (NLT)

Isaiah 55:8-13 – “My thoughts are completely different from yours,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heaves are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

“The rain and snow come from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. You will live in joy and peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song, and the trees of the field will clap their hands! Where once there were thorns, cypress trees will grow. Where briers grew, myrtles will sprout up. This miracle will bring great honor to the Lord’s name; it will be an everlasting sign of his power and love.”

. . . says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” –Isaiah 55:8 (NLT)

My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. –Isaiah 55:8 (NRSV)

Jennifer Fenn (California) titled her story “NOT WHAT I PLANNED;” here is a portion of Jennifer’s story:

“For years, I dreamed of serving on a mission in another country. When I heard about a week-long mission trip to Haiti, I was excited! . . . Since I have an autoimmune disease, the vaccines posed health risks to me. I was disappointed, but I knew that God would provide another opportunity for me to serve.

“Later, I learned about a trip to a disaster-relief supply depot in Salt Lake City to pack kits of washcloths, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and bandages. I soon made arrangements to go.

“. . . Through this experience, I unexpectedly fulfilled my desire to serve God through mission work.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – God will always provide opportunities to serve others.

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for planning wonderful things for us! Keep our hearts open to see them and respond. Amen.
