Today is one of those days that I believe the Spirit has moved me to send a different message.
Today’s scripture reading:
Matthew 10:1, 5-8 – Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to cast out evil spirits and to heal every kind of disease and illness.
Jesus sent the twelve disciples out with these instructions: “Don’t go to the Gentiles or the Samaritans, but only to the people of Israel—God’s lost sheep. Go and announce to them that the Kingdom of Heaven is near. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast our demons. Give us freely as you have received!”
*Because we are born sinners, our natural inclination is to please ourselves rather than God. David followed that inclination when to took anotehr man’s wife. Like David, we must ask God to cleanse us from within, filling our hearts and spirits with new thoughts and desires. Right conduct can come only from a clean heart and spirit. Ask God to create a pure heart and spirit in you. (NLT)
Psalm 51:10 – Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.
Jim MacLean (Queensland, Australia) titled his story “TRUSTING JESUS;” here is a portion of Jim’s story:
“I conducted the Christmas morning service at a country church in New South Wales. . . . A neatly dressed young man with long blond hair greeted me by calling me ‘Mr. Mac.’ I did not recognize him and he said, ‘Have you forgotten me? I was the worst kid in your scripture class in high school.’ . . . He had made a decision to follow Christ and became secretary of the student Christian movement at his university.
“. . . I learned a valuable lesson that day: we may never know what awaits those who hear God’s word. When we share the messages of the Bible, we can rely on God to use our constant proclamation of faith to do the converting and the calling.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – Today I will thank someone who shaped my faith.
Prayer: Dear God of compassion, help us to see the potential you see in others and to be an example for those around us. Amen.
Prayer Focus: YOUNG PEOPLE HEARING GOD’S WORD
