Today’s scripture reading:

We can be assured and have hope in God’s protection day and night. He not only made the hills but heaven and earth as well. We should never trust a lesser power than God himself. Not only is He all-powerful, He also watches over us. Nothing diverts or deters him. We are safe. We never outgrow our need for God’s untiring watch over our life. (NLT)

Psalm 121:5 – The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade.

Matthew 6:25-34 – [Jesus said] “So I tell you, don’t worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food, drink, and clothes. Doesn’t life consist of more than food and clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t need to plant or harvest or put food in barns because your heavenly Father feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than they are. Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? Of course not.

“And why worry about your clothes? Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and gone tomorrow, won’t he more surely care for you? You have so little faith!

“So don’t worry about having enough food or drink or clothing. Why be like the pagans who are so deeply concerned about these things? Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs, and he will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern.

“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

The Lord watches over you – the Lord is your shade at your right hand. –Psalm 121:5 (NIV)

Gail Babula (New Jersey) titled her story “GOD IS WATCHING;” here is Gail’s story:

“Thirteen years ago, I suffered a severe stroke. I was only 52 and in good health. This brain stem stroke left me totally paralyzed from the neck down, without the ability to talk or eat. Within two minutes, my life had changed.

“I spent the next year trying to regain some of what I had lost. But with God watching over me, I went from a drooling, motionless person unable to breathe without an oxygen machine to someone able to breathe on her own and to move her head. After a year’s hard work, I was able to go home. But what was next for me? TV or music all day? I tried that for the first few years; but I wasn’t content without keeping my mind active. Again, God was watching over me. Through a friend, God provided a way for me to function with more independence. I can now control my wheelchair with my head and headrest. And every letter and word of this story was written with the use of my eyes.

“God is watching over us and sees what we need – whether another person or even a machine – to help us express our thoughts.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – God is watching over me today.

Prayer: Thank you, God, for watching over us in our times of need. Amen.

Prayer Focus: THOSE WHO ARE PARALYZED
