Today’s scripture reading:
Paul uses adoption to illustrate the believer’s new relationship with God. When a person becomes a Christian, he or she gains all the privileges and responsibilities of a child in God’s family. One of these outstanding privileges is being led by the Spirit. We may not always feel as though we belong to God, but the Holy Spirit is our witness. His inward presence reminds us of who we are and encourages us with God’s love. (NLT)
Romans 8:14-17 – For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.
So you should not be like cow3ering, fearful slaves. You should behave instead like God’s very own children, adopted into his family—calling him “Father, dear Father.” For his Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we will share his treasures—for everything God gives to his Son, Christ, is ours, too. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.
God destined us to be his adopted children through Jesus Christ because of his love. This was according to his goodwill and plan. –Ephesians 1:5 (CEB)
Mary Ann Baker (Pennsylvania) titled her story “WE ARE FAMILY;” here is a portion of Mary Ann’s story:
“I was born the daughter of an unwed teenager who decided to give me up for adoption. A couple who had always wanted children, but couldn’t have any, decided they wanted to adopt. God answered their prayers when they were granted permission to adopt me. God was watching over me too; I couldn’t have asked for better parents. They brought me up in a loving Christian home. They always set a good example for me and taught me right from wrong.
“. . . My parents loved me unconditionally. My birth mother’s decision to allow me to be adopted was also a selfless act of love. She put me first, and I will always be grateful for this glimpse of God’s love. God offers us unconditional love, support, and forgiveness; fulfills our needs; and never fails us. When we profess our faith in Christ, we become part of God’s family.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – Who has shown me God’s unconditional love?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, watch over all parents and children. Thank you for adopting us into your family. Amen.
