Today’s scripture reading:
. . . power to do what pleases Him. –Philippians 2:13 (NLT)
Our life should be characterized by moral purity, patience, and peacefulness, so that we will “shine brightly” in a dark and depraved world. A transformed life is an effective witness to the power of God’s Word. Is your life shining brightly, or is it clouded by complaining and arguing? Shine out for God. (NLT)
Philippians 2:12-16 – Dearest friends, you were always so careful to follow my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away you must be even more careful to put into action God’s saving work in your lives, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire to obey him and the power to do what pleases him.
In everything you do, stay away from complaining and arguing, so that no one can speak a word of blame against you. You are to live clean, innocent lives as children of God in a dark world full of crooked and perverse people. Let your lives shine brightly before them. Hold tightly to the word of life, so that when Christ returns, I will be proud that I did not lose the race and that my work was not useless. But even if my life is to be poured out like a drink offering to complete the sacrifice of your faithful service (that is, if I am to die for you), I will rejoice, and I want to share my joy with all of you. And you should be happy about this and rejoice with me.
It is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. –Philippians 2:13 (NIV)
Altagracia Mota Fariña’s (Dominican Republic) story is titled “READY TO SERVE;” here is a portion of Altagracia’s story:
“. . . When I think of how fortunate I am to be involved in God’s work, I am overcome with joy. The children’s energy enlivens my spiritual life. My ministry has been a welcome oasis in the desert places I have experienced in my life. God graciously prepares each of us in unique ways to serve in just the right ministry.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – Today I will search for opportunities to use my gifts in God’s service.
Prayer: Loving God, create in each of us a willing heart to follow our path of service to you. Amen.
