Today’s scripture reading:

Paul was satisfied with whatever he had, wherever he was, as long as he could do God’s work.   Examine your attitudes toward wealth and comfort. If you focus more on what you don’t have rather than what you do have, its time to reexamine your priorities and put God’s work back in first place. (NLT)

Acts 20:32-35 – “And now I entrust you to God and the word of his grace—his message that is able to build you up and give you an inheritance with all those he has set apart for himself.

“I have never coveted anyone’s money or fine clothing. You know that these hands of mine have worked to pay my own way, and I have even supplied the needs of those who were with me. And I have been a constant example of how you can help the poor by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back. –Luke 6:38 (NRSV)

John B. Tate, Jr. (Washington, D.C.) titled his story “A PARTY WITH PRESENTS;” here is John’s story:

“When asked what he wanted for his 8th birthday party, my grandson Caleb said, ‘A party with presents. Everybody brings a present, and then we will take all the presents to the homeless shelter for the kids who don’t have any gifts for their birthdays.’ And that is exactly what they did. Caleb said ti was the most fun he had ever had on his birthday.

“Jesus reminds us to give. When we give out of a generous and loving spirit, a ‘good measure’ will come to us. That good measure can come to us as a sense of joy and satisfaction when we show love to others. When we acknowledge that we have learned something about sharing and live out that lesson, when we give expecting nothing in return, God can take our gifts and use them to offer someone else abundant life. Good measure comes when we realize that giving from the heart has its own reward.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – How can I use my gifts to bless others?

Prayer: Give us generous hearts, minds, and spirits, O God, so that what we give may help others to know your love. Through Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
