Today’s scripture reading:

We can never avoid strife in the world around us, but when we fix our thoughts on God, we can know perfect peace even in turmoil. S we focus our mind on God and his Word, we become steady and stable. Supported by God’s unchanging love and mighty power, we are not shaken by the surrounding chaos. Do you want peace? Keep your thoughts on God and your trust in him.

At times the “path” of the righteous doesn’t seem smooth, and it isn’t easy to do God’s will, but we are never alone when we face tough times. God is there to help us, to comfort us, and to lead us. God does this by giving us a purpose (keeping our mind centered on him) and giving us provisions as we travel. God provides us with relationships of family, friends, and mentors. God gives us wisdom to make decisions and faith to trust him. Don’t despair; stay on God’s path. (NLT)

Isaiah 26:1-9 – In that day, everyone in the land of Judah will sing this song: Our city is now strong! We are surrounded by the walls of God’s salvation. Open the gates to all who are righteous; allow the faithful to enter. You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, whose thoughts are fixed on you! Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock. He humbles the proud and brings the arrogant city to the dust. Its walls come crashing down!

The poor and oppressed trample it underfoot. But for those who are righteous, the path is not steep and rough. You are a God of justice, and you smooth out the road ahead of them. Lord, we love to obey your laws; our heart’s desire is to glorify your name. All night long I search for you; earnestly I seek for God. For only when you come to judge the earth will people turn from wickedness and do what is right.

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. –Isaiah 26:3

Ma. Magdalena Alvarado G. (Coahuila, Mexico) titled her story “THE PEACE OF GOD;” here is a portion of Magdalena’s story:

“. . . As the plane moved down the runway and began to gain altitude, I noticed the change in cabin pressure. Feeling slightly fearful, I started to pray: ‘Please, no turbulence. May this be a peaceful flight.’

“Life can be like that plane ride, with unexpected events and surprises – a grave illness, sudden death of a loved one, or loss of a job. These events are the ‘turbulence’ we encounter in our lives.

“It is amazing to know that despite the turbulence, God is always with us, in the center of every circumstance, and provides the peace that surpasses all understanding. When we draw close to God and ask for help, we can be reminded that Christ is always with us, ‘to the very end of the age’ (Matt. 28:20).”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – When I trust in God, I can find peace.

Prayer: Loving God, thank you for your constant presence among us. Grant us your peace that surpasses all understanding. We pray as Jesus taught us, saying, “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one” (Matt. 6:9-13, NIV). Amen.
