Today’s scripture reading:
Isaiah 61:1-3 – The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, because the Lord has appointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to announce that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord’s favor has come, and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies. To all who mourn in Israel, he will give beauty for ashes, joy instead of mourning, praise instead of despair. For the Lord has planted them like strong and graceful oaks for his own glory.
Dave Shiple (South Carolina) titled his story “STRENGTH FROM GOD;” here is a portion of Dave’s story:
“As a part of my personal ministry, I volunteer at a local prison, and I am humbled to be around the men of F Block. Many of the men there have lost almost everything: their families, their jobs, their homes, and their reputations. But they have not lost the love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Their faith in God is unquenchable. They know that through the love of God they can turn their lives around and become the men they believe God wants them to be.
“I always ask each man his prayer requests, and almost all of them ask for the Lord to continue to strengthen their faith. . . .
“. . . Seeing the undying love for God and strong faith in Jesus Christ among men who have lost so much is the greatest testimony to the transformative power of God I have ever witnessed. Thanks to the men of F Block, I have become stronger in my faith.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – How has God strengthened my faith through the faith of another?
Prayer: Dear Lord, bless all who are imprisoned. Strengthen and sustain their faith and ours. Amen.
