Today’s scripture reading:
This “fullness” is fully expressed only in Christ. In union with Christ and through his empower Spirit, we are complete. We have all the fullness of God available to us. But we must appropriate that fullness through faith and through prayer as we daily live for him. Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians is also for you. You can ask the Holy Spirit to fill every aspect of your life to the fullest. (NLT)
Ephesians 4:14-21 – When I think of the wisdom and scope of God’s plan, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will give you mighty inner strength through his Holy Spirit. And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love really is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never full understand it. Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
Now glory be to God! By his mighty power at work within us, he is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope. May he be given glory in the church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever through endless ages. Amen.
The Lord said to Paul, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” –2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)
Marion Palmer (South Australia, Australia) titled her story “DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH;” here is a portion of Marion’s story:
“One misty, gray morning I went walking with my children just as the rain stopped. We passed an ugly, bare field of roughly mown stubble. Returning some time later, however, we were witnesses to an amazing transformation. . . . Over the entire field of stubble were thousands of cobwebs covered with droplets of water. They sparkled in the light like diamonds. It appeared as if the entire field were covered in diamond lace. It was beautiful.
“. . . God promises that his grace is sufficient for us and is, in fact, made perfect in our weakness. When at times we feel like our lives are like dry stubble, we can take heart in knowing that God’s love, mercy, and grace cover us and that we too are made whole, precious, and beautiful in God’s sight.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – What dry area of my life needs Christ’s covering grace?
Prayer: Dear Lord, you make all things beautiful in your time. Give us eyes to see what you see. Amen.
Prayer Focus: TO BECOME CLOSER TO JESUS
