Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)

Today’s scripture reading:

In this story, we are taught that we are responsible for our own spiritual condition.

When Jesus returns to take his people to heaven, we must be ready. Spiritual preparation cannot be bought or borrowed at the last minute. Our relationship with God must be our own. (NLT)

Matthew 25:1-13 – [Jesus said] “The Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of ten bridesmaids who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. The five who were foolish took no oil for their lamps, but the other five were wise enough to take along extra oil. When the bridegroom was delayed, they all lay down and slept. At midnight they were roused by the shout, ‘Look, the bridegroom is coming! Come out and welcome him!’

“All the bridesmaids got up and prepared their lamps. Then the five foolish ones asked the others, ‘Please give us some of your oil because our lamps are going out.’ But the others replied, ‘We don’t have enough for all of us. Go to a shop and buy some for yourselves.’

“But while they were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was locked. Later, when the other five bridesmaids returned, they stood outside, calling, ‘Sir, open the door for us!’ But he called back, ‘I don’t know you!’

“So stay awake and be prepared, because you do not know the day or hour of my return.”

Keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour. –Matthew 25:13 (NIV)

Amy Sutikdja (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) titled her story “ALWAYS PREPARED;” here is a portion of Amy’s story:

“As kitchen staff, we have a responsibility to keep our workplace clean. . . .

“. . . Unwavering faith in God and obedience to God’s commands will keep us ready to welcome Jesus when he comes gain. And at that time, I want to be among those who are ready to receive him and to enter into his eternal kingdom.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – How prepared am I to receive Jesus when he comes again?

Prayer: O God, help us walk in your path day by day until the time Christ comes again. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
