Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)
Today’s scripture reading:
This passage provides the central theme of Deuteronomy. It sets a pattern that helps us relate the Word of God to our daily lives. We are to love God, think constantly about his commandments, teach his commandments to our children, and live each day by guidelines in His Word. God emphasized the importance of parents’ teaching the Bible to their children. The church and Christian schools cannot be used to escape from this responsibility. The Bible provides so many opportunities for object lessons and practical teaching that it would be a shame to study it only one day a week. Eternal truths are most effectively learned in the loving environment of a God-fearing home. (NLT)
Deuteronomy 6:4-9 – “Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are away on a journey, when you are lying down and when you are getting up again. Tie them to your hands as a reminder, and wear them on your forehead. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
Come near to God, and he will come near to you. –James 4:8 (CEB)
Andrew Billings (Alabama) titled his story “GOD TRAVELS;” here is a portion of Andrew’s story:
“Reading The Upper Room has become one of my early-morning rituals. Before I do anything else, I read a daily devotional from the e-mail that was sent to me in the middle of the night. Doing so helps me to clear my mind and prepare for the day.
“However, I travel for work, sometimes across many times zones. The e-mail containing the daily devotional arrives in my inbox at different points in the day. . . . I have discovered that no time is the wrong time to pause for a moment with the Lord. No matter the time or place, I read and contemplate God’s word. Wherever we are and whatever we are doing, a conversation with God awaits. This is a tremendous blessing.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – I can always make time to spend with God.
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for transcending time and space to welcome us with your word. Amen.
Prayer Focus: BUSINESS TRAVELERS [All travelers]
