Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)

Today’s scripture reading:

Isaiah 55:8-13 – “My thoughts are completely different from yours,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

“The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with my word. I sent it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. You will live in joy and peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song, and the trees of the field will clap their hands! Where once there were thorns, cypress trees will grow. Where briers grew, myrtles will sprout up. This miracle will bring great honor to the Lord’s name; it will be an everlasting sign of his power and love.”

The Lord said, “My word . . . that goeth forth out of my mouth . . . shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please.” –Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)

Lori Hatcher (South Carolina) titled her story “SHARING GOD’S WORD;” here is a portion of Lori’s story:

“My friend Robin was discouraged. Only 13 children had attended our church’s annual vacation Bible School. . . .

“I told her about my first vacation Bible school. It was hosted by a small church, and only a handful of neighborhood children attended. I was one of them. ‘That’s where I received my first Bible,’ I told her. ‘I also memorized my first Bible verse, and sang ‘Jesus Loves Me’ for the first time. Thirteen years later, when a friend shared the gospel with me and quoted John 3:16 [see below], I already knew the verse because I had memorized it so many years before.’

“I didn’t make a decision to follow Christ the summer I attended vacation Bible school. The kind people at that church never knew I came to faith 13 years Later, but God used the verse they helped me memorize to open my heart. I’ve served God faithfully for over 30 years. Even if we can’t see it at the time, we can trust that God’s word always accomplishes God’s purpose.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – Sharing God’s good news is never a waste of time.

Prayer: Dear God, help us to share your word faithfully and to trust you to accomplish your purpose in those around us. Amen.

* To “believe” is more than intellectual agreement that Jesus is God. It means to put our trust and confidence in him that he alone can save us. It is to put Christ in charge of our present plans and eternal destiny. Believing is both trusting his words as reliable, and relying on him for the power to change. If you have never trusted Christ, let this promise of everlasting life be yours—and believe. (NLT)

John 3:16 – [Jesus said] “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
