Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)

Today’s scripture reading:

[Jesus said] . . . your Father already knows your needs; He will give you all you need from day to day if you make the Kingdom of God your primary concern. –Luke 12:31 (NLT)

Making the Kingdom of God your primary concern means making Jesus the Lord and King of your life. He must control every area—your work, play, plans, relationships. Is the Kingdom only one of your many concerns, or is it central to all you do? Are you holding back any areas of your life from God’s control? As Lord and Creator, He wants to help provide what you need as well as guide how you use what he provides. (NLT)

Luke 12:22-31 – Then turning to his disciples, Jesus said, “So I tell you, don’t worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food to eat or clothes to wear. For life consists of far more than food and clothing. Look at the ravens. They don’t need to plant or harvest or put food in barns because God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds! Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? Of course not! And if worry can’t do little things like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things?

“Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and gone tomorrow, won’t he more surely care for you? You have so little faith! And don’t worry about food—what to eat and drink. Don’t worry whether God will provide it for you. These things dominate the thoughts of most people, but your Father already knows your needs. He will give you all you need from day to day if you make the Kingdom of God your primary concern. . . .”

Quoted verse: Jesus said, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” –Matthew 11:29 (NIV)

“Story” – Lenore Warton (New South Wales, Australia) titled her story “ONE DAY AT A TIME;” here is Lenore’s story:

“Struggling with the grief of widowhood, I’ve had days where even the touch of my clothes seems uncomfortable, and I wonder how I can carry on by myself. When I feel this way, I remember Jesus’ words, ‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest’ (Matt. 11:28). I remember thinking that I just need to keep pressing on, listening for God’s guidance. It was too easy to get ahead of myself and worry about my future. I wondered how long I would be able to maintain my house and survive on my own.

“After a while I discovered the secret to my getting through. It is just by living – at times minute by minute, hour by hour, or day by day. All these days added together are two and a half years; while I still struggle, I know I am stronger and that further healing is coming. I know that if I continue to trust and remain obedient, God will lead me – one day at a time.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – God carries us into the future one day at a time.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, release us from our worries about the future, and help us to trust you for all our days. Amen.

Prayer Focus: WIDOWS
