Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)
Today’s scripture reading:
Christians should not blend in with everyone else. Instead, we should affect others positively; be a beacon of truth—don’t shut your light off from the rest of the world. (NLT)
Matthew 5:13-16 – [Jesus said] “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it useful again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. You are the light of the world—like a city on a mountain, glowing in the night for all to see. Don’t hide your light under a basket! Instead, put it on a stand and let it shine for all. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. . . .”
Quoted verse: Let your light shine before people, so they can see the good things you do and praise your Father who is in heaven. –Matthew 5:16 (CEB)
“Story” – Belinda Jo Mathias (Mississippi) titled her story “MAKING A DIFFERENCE;” here is a portion of Belinda Jo’s story:
“My energetic 70-year-old friend Mary Ann broke her leg and had to be wheelchair bound and then on crutches for quite a while. . . . I saw a post on Facebook from one of the women of our church, seeking help decorating for a father-daughter ball. Mary Ann’s comment in response was, ‘If you have something I can do sitting down, I will be glad to help.’ Now that is a servant spirit. Mary Ann has mastered the way to make the world a brighter place for anyone whose life she touches.
“So many times we fail to see our potential because we allow our limitations to discourage us. But every day we are given opportunities to reach out to serve God, to love others, and to make a difference. Whether by a phone call, a handwritten note, or just a smile, we all have the means to make our world a better place.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – I can’t do everything to serve God, but I can always do something.
Prayer: Father God, help us to see beyond our limitations to the potential we all have to serve you each day. Amen.
