Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)
Today’s scripture reading:
Anna was called a prophet, indicating that she was unusually close to God. Prophets did not necessarily predict the future. Their main role was to speak for God, proclaiming His truth. Find ways to continue to serve Him. (NLT)
Luke 2:36-38 – Anna, a prophet, was also there in the Temple. She was the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher, and was very old. She was a widow, for her husband had died when they had been married only seven years. She was now eighty-four years old. She never left the Temple but stayed there day and night, worshiping God with fasting and prayer. She came along just as Simeon was talking with Mary and Joseph, and she began praising God. She talked about Jesus to everyone who had been waiting for the promised King to come and deliver Jerusalem.
Quoted verse: Come, my heart says, seek God’s face. Lord, I do seek your face! –Psalm 27:88 (CEB)
“Story” – Sister Confianza del Señor (Honduras) titled her story “SERVING GOD;” here is a portion of Sister’s story:
“On November 16, 2016, at Amigas del Señor Methodist Monastery, I was consecrated to be a nun for the rest of my life. . . .
“I expect that the simple life of prayer I have chosen will allow me to see and know God in creation and in other people. In fact, I believe that through regular spiritual practices such as prayer, meditation, reading the Bible, communal worship, and serving those in need, we all can become more open to recognizing God’s work in the world around us.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – God is present all around us.
Prayer: Loving God, help us, through your grace, to be open to your presence in our lives. We pray in the name of Jesus who taught us to pray, “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” (Matt. 6:9-13, KJV).
