Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)

Today’s scripture reading:

These are truths about the Holy Spirit: He will never leave us; the world at large cannot receive him; he lives with us and in us; he teaches us; he reminds us of Jesus’ words; he convinces us of sin, shows us God’s righteousness, and announces God’s judgment on evil; he guides into truth and gives insight into future events; he brings glory to Christ. The Holy Spirit has been active among people from the beginning of time, but after Pentecost he came to live in all believers. Many people are unaware of the Holy Spirit’s activities, but to those who hear Christ’s words and understand the Spirit’s power, the Spirit gives a whole new way to look at life. (NLT)

John 14:15-19 – [Jesus said] “If you love me, obey my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world at large cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you do, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you.   In just a little while the world will not see me again, but you will. For I will live again, and you will, too. . . .”

Quoted verse: Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. –Galatians 5:25 (NIV)

“Story” – Paul Strickland (South Carolina, USA) titled his story “IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF JESUS;” here is a portion of Paul’s story:

“My dad was surefooted as a mountain goat. I never saw him stumble. . . .

“I have met someone else who is even more surefooted than my dad ever was. He walks on a narrow path, but his steps are always on solid, level ground. I am talking about the footsteps of Jesus, who is the way, the truth, and the life. My slips and falls have been greatly reduced since I started following in his footsteps. His paths are straight and always well lit. Actually, his footsteps are clearly seen in scripture for all to see and follow. His invitation is to the world: ‘Come, follow me.’ (Matt. 4:19).”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – The more I walk the path of Jesus, the clearer the way becomes.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank you for making your path, the path of life, clear for all to see. As you taught us we pray, “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one” (Matt. 6:9-13, NIV). Amen.
