Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)

Today’s scripture reading:

God regards all the skills of his people, not merely those with theological or ministerial abilities. Our tendency is to regard only those who are up front and in leadership roles. God gave Bezalel and Oholiab Spirit filled abilities in artistic craftsmanship. Take notice of all the abilities God gives his people. Don’t diminish your skills if they are not like Moses’ and Aaron’s. (NLT)

Exodus 31:1-11 – The Lord also said to Moses, “Look, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, grandson of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. I have filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, intelligence, and skill in all kinds of crafts. He is able to create beautiful objects from gold, silver, and bronze. He is skilled in cutting and setting gemstones and in carving wood. Yes, he is a master at every craft!

“And I have appointed Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, to be his assistant. Moreover, I have given special skill to all the naturally talented craftsmen so they can make all the things I have instructed you to make: the Tabernacle itself; the Ark of the Covenant; the Ark’s cover—the place of atonement; all the furnishings of the Tabernacle; the table and all its utensils; the gold lampstand with all its accessories; the incense altar; the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils; the washbasin and its pedestal; the beautifully stitched, holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments for his sons to wear as they minister as priests; the anointing oil ;and the special incense for the Holy Place. They must follow exactly all the instructions I have given you.”

Quoted verse: The Lord said, “I have filled [Bezalel] with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills.” –Exodus 31:3 (NIV)

“Story” – Melinda VanRy (New York, USA) titled her story “BUILDING TOGETHER;” here is Melinda’s story:

“As the children finished lunch on our field trip, a few younger ones drifted over and started building with the large blocks. They worked together to build small walls and towers, then laughingly knocked them down. More kids joined in, and small groups of three or four put together larger structures. Soon all the kids were working side by side. As a team, they constructed an impressive fortress that would have been impossible to build had they not all worked together.   I was impressed by their cooperation and how they naturally drew on one another’s strengths and creativity to reach their common goal.

“God has always equipped people to serve. When it was time to build the Tabernacle, God called on the people blessed with skills to create beautiful works of art. In the body of Christ, we are given spiritual gifts to serve, edify, and grow the church. God has blessed each of us with talents, skills, and creativity, to serve in the body of Christ. These skills coupled with our spiritual gifts serve to continue the church’s growth. Whether on our own or together, our common goal is to represent Jesus and to share the good news of salvation – all the while building up the body of Christ.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – God has a purpose for my gifts and abilities.

Prayer: Dear God, help us to use our gifts and talents to honor you. Amen.
