Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)

Today’s scripture reading:

[When we pray for something, He answers our prayers by using us.]

Jesus looked at the crowds following Him and referred to them as a field ripe for harvest. Many people are ready to give their lives to Christ if someone would show them how. Jesus commands us to pray that people will respond to this need for workers. Often, when we pray for something, God answers our prayers by using us. Be prepared for God to use you to show another person the way to Him. (NLT)

Matthew 9:35-38 – Jesus traveled through all the cities and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And wherever he went, he healed people of every sort of disease and illness. He felt great pity for the crowds that came, because their problems were so great and they didn’t know where to go for help. They were like sheep without a shepherd. He said to his disciples, “The harvest is so great, but the workers are so few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send out more workers for his fields.”

Quoted verse: Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations.” –Matthew 28:19 (NIV)

“Story” – Kim Sisk’s (Oklahoma, USA) story is titled “BERRY PICKING TIME;” here is a portion of Kim’s story:

“Harvesting wild blackberries is not easy. . . .

“How like making disciples for Christ berry picking can be! It’s not easy work. God does not always call at convenient times. God calls when the harvest is ready. It may be a neighbor who has had surgery or a young mother on the side of the road with a broken-down car. God places in our lives opportunities to sow love for the harvest. Are we ready to venture into the berry patch when the Lord of the harvest calls?”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few” (Matt. 9:37).

Prayer: Father God, open our eyes to the needs among us. Give us courage and willingness to respond to your call. We pray the prayer Jesus taught us, “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be they name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us.   And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil” (Luke 11:2-4, KJV). Amen
