Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)
Today’s scripture reading:
David taught Solomon as a young boy that seeking God’s wisdom was the most important choice he could make. Solomon learned the lesson well. When God appeared to the new king to fulfill any request, Solomon chose wisdom above all else. We should also make God’s wisdom our first choice. We don’t have to wait for God to appear to us. We can boldly ask Him for wisdom today through prayer. James 1:5 assures us that God will grant our request. (NLT)
Proverbs 4:1-9 – My children, listen to me. Listen to your father’s instruction. Pay attention and grow wise, for I am giving you good guidance. Don’t turn away from my teaching. For I, too, was once my father’s son, tenderly loved by my mother as an only child.
My father told me, “Take my words to heart. Follow my instructions and you will live. Learn to be wise, and develop good judgment. Don’t forget or turn away from my words. Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her, and she will guard you. Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do! And whatever else you do, get good judgment. If you prize wisdom, she will exalt you. Embrace her and she will honor you. She will place a lovely wreath on your head; she will present you with a beautiful crown.”
Quoted verse: Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. –1 Corinthians 16:13 (NIV)
“Story” – José Laguna Lemus (Atlántico, Colombia) titled his story “DAILY WALK WITH CHRIST;” here is a portion of José’s story:
“There have been times in my life when I have so disobeyed God and Christ’s teachings that I thought I was beyond help and love. It weighed heavily on my mind that God might not want to have anything to do with me because of my sins. . . . I am grateful to God that with the help of the Holy Spirit, I am learning how to stand strong against temptation and to lean on God’s teachings.
“Following Christ requires us to change our hearts and minds. Many things can influence our thoughts and actions and cause us to stray from our daily walk with Christ. But the Holy Spirit reminds us that Christ is our ultimate example. His earthly life, work, and ministry were not deterred by anything or anyone. Quite the contrary, because of the power of his love for us, Christ overcame sin and death and offers us life everlasting.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – “I can do all this through him who gives me strength” (Phil. 4:13).
Prayer: Forgiving God, we count on your unfailing strength to help us overcome the stumbling blocks in our faith journey. Uphold us when we falter, and pick us up when we fall. Amen.
