Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)
Today’s scripture reading:
All believers are God’s chosen people, and all share the responsibility of representing him to the world. One day God will bring all his faithful people together. We need not fear because (1) God is with us (“I am with you”), (2) God has established a relationship with us (“I am your God”), and (3) [God] He gives us assurance of His strength, His help, and His victory over sin and death. Are you aware of all the ways God has helped you? (NLT)
Isaiah 41:9-13 – “. . . I have called you back from the ends of the earth so you can serve me. For I have chosen you and will not throw you away. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.
“See, all your angry enemies lie there, confused and ashamed. Anyone who opposes you will die. You will look for them in vain. They will all be gone! I am holding you by your right hand—I, the Lord your God. And I say to you, ‘Do not be afraid. I am here to help you. . . .”
Quoted verse: Weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning. –Psalm 30:5 (NRSV)
“Story” – Diana Fleming (Georgia, USA) titled her story “DAWN WILL BREAK;” here is a portion of Diana’s story:
“One night my young son, Nevin, came to me. Crying, he told me that he didn’t want to be alone; he wanted to stay with me. I held him, and I encouraged him by saying that God tells us not to be afraid. . . .
“This made me think of the times when I have cried out to God in fear. For me, the night has been many things: the loss of a job, the chronic illness of a child, the loss of loved ones. Yet each time that I have cried out to God in the night, God has held me and reassured me. Through my tears, God was with me. Eventually, dawn will break – and with it comes the peace and joy that God promises.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – God conquers my fears and brings hope and light to my darkness.
Prayer: Loving God, replace our fear with hope as we wait for the joy of the morning. Amen.
